Making Explainer Videos That Actually Explain

Let’s be real. Reading a list of software features to your audience is the fastest way to put them to sleep. It’s like trying to explain the plot of Tenet at a loud pub. Eventually, people just nod, smile, and look for the exit!

Software videos are vital for showing people what you do, but they shouldn't feel like a chore. You’ve got a clever platform to show off. Great. But taking a massive list of buttons and turning it into something people actually want to watch? That’s where the magic happens. We recently had to solve this exact puzzle for a client.

Take Zookal, for example.

The Project

Zookal Study is an absolute beast. They’ve got flashcards, expert help, and a library with over a million answers. On paper, it’s a goldmine for students. On a video brief? It’s a lot to squeeze in!

When the brief landed on our desks, it was basically a giant list of every single thing the platform could do. A dream for the person who built it, but a bit of a puzzle for the team filming it.

The clock was ticking, the budget was tight, and we had to move fast.

The Creative Pivot

A massive live action shoot with a huge crew wasn’t going to happen. So we decided to lean into the limits.

Instead of a bloated production, Matt and the team went for a punchy visual story. We used motion graphics, clever stock footage, and screen recordings of the actual app in the wild. We showcased all the good stuff without leaning too heavily into the "ad-speak".

Why it Worked

By showing the app in motion, we made the whole thing feel real. We bypassed the boring feature list entirely and made the massive library feel like a tool you’d actually use on a Tuesday night before an exam.

Sometimes the tightest briefs lead to the best work. You cut the noise, save the cash, and focus on the highlight of your customer's day!

If you’ve got a tricky brief sitting on your desk and you’re wondering how to make it sing, flick us a message. We can grab a Same-Day Quote and see if we can help you rid the world of one more boring video.
